From The Reflector Editor

Your June 2020 issue of S&D Reflector contains Fran Nash’s feature story on Pittsburgh & Cincinnati Packet Line (P&C). At the end of Fran’s portrait of the company, he offers some brief vignettes of five of the company’s packets. It occurred to your editor that Capt. Fred Way had penned some notable tributes to at least two of these steamers in previous issues of the magazine, and that it would be very fitting to provide our present-day readers with the opportunity to read what the good captain had written those many years ago. We have selected four stories from the magazine to appear on our website, chosen by Capt. Fred himself when describing these boats in Way’s Directory of Steam Packets. Those stories span a dozen years from 1964 through 1976: three deal with QUEEN CITY, and two with VIRGINIA. For those newcomers to S&D, you are in for a real treat as you read these words by Capt. Fred and marvel at the elegant craftmanship pictured in his photos of these fine steamers. Happy reading!
